The Architect of the
Retire REGAL® Process

Chris Owens is the founder of Owens Financial Group and the architect of the Retire REGAL® Process — a comprehensive planning and investment framework built around the belief that retirement freedom is not accidental. It is designed.

With recognition among the top financial professionals globally through the Million Dollar Round Table's Court of the Table, Chris brings a planning philosophy shaped by decades of working with individuals and families navigating the transition from accumulation to living.

His approach is grounded in a simple observation: the strategies that build wealth are not always the strategies that preserve freedom. Retirement introduces different forces — income timing, tax exposure, healthcare uncertainty, legislative change — and those forces require coordination, not just management.

The Retire REGAL® Process and the REGAL Stronghold™ reflect that conviction. They exist to help people move from financial uncertainty to structural confidence — so retirement becomes something they live fully, not something they manage anxiously.

Why I Built This

Over the course of my career, I kept seeing the same pattern: clients who had done everything right — saved diligently, diversified thoughtfully, worked with good advisors — arriving at retirement still feeling structurally unprepared. Not because they lacked assets. Because the framework they had been given was built for accumulation, not for the entirely different demands of living from those assets without a paycheck.

The goal is not perfection. It is confidence — the kind that comes from knowing the structure beneath your feet was built with resilience in mind.

Where the Framework Began

The Moment That Changed
Everything

Nevada, 1985 — A desert highway

"A single raven, suspended above the road, wings beating furiously — going nowhere."

In 1985, a young Chris Owens sat in the passenger seat of his father's van on a cross-country road trip through Nevada. Heavy winds had picked up across a desolate stretch of highway. Then they noticed something strange: a single raven suspended above the road, wings beating furiously — going nowhere.

His father watched for a moment. Then he said three things that stayed with the family forever.

Stop.
Analyze
the Problem.
Take Corrective
Measures.

Decades later, that moment became the foundation for the Retire REGAL® framework — built on the recognition that retirement, like that raven in the wind, does not reward effort alone. It rewards alignment.

The raven was not failing. It was not weak. It simply had not yet recognized that the environment had changed. Most retirement plans make the same mistake.

Planning Philosophy

From Portfolio Management
to Retirement Architecture

Many financial professionals focus primarily on investment returns.
Chris's approach centers on retirement architecture.

The Old Lens

Portfolio Management

A portfolio that outperforms a benchmark is the measure of success. Returns are tracked, allocation is adjusted, and the focus is on growth relative to a market index. The assumption is that a strong portfolio will translate to a strong retirement.

The New Lens

Retirement Architecture

A retirement that holds together under stress is the measure of success — designed to address market declines, tax changes, health events, and legislative shifts as a connected system.

The distinction matters. Returns measure growth. Architecture measures resilience.

This philosophy shapes everything about the Retire REGAL® Process: income is designed before growth is optimized. Taxes are diversified, not just deferred. Assets are organized by role — stability, resilience, and optionality — rather than by arbitrary percentages. And every decision is viewed through the lens of how it affects every other realm.

Beyond the Work

The Person
Behind the Process

Born in the Bootheel of Missouri and raised in St. Louis, Chris is a proud alumnus of the University of Missouri-Columbia. When he is not helping clients build retirement confidence, you will find him hiking the national parks with his family, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, and traveling abroad.

The same principles that guide the Retire REGAL® framework — preparation, structure, alignment — are the ones he brings to every aspect of life.
